Genome-wide dual CRISPRi-seq! Knocking down every gene with every other gene in the pneumococcus, identifying > 4000 genetic interactions (GIs), most of which have never been reported. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Had a blast at GRC Streptococcal Biology, grateful for new friends made, and honored to go home with a short talk award! Time to fight the jet lag.

Genome analysis adds to mounting evidence against the idea that Rapa Nui’s population collapsed owing to overexploitation of natural resources go.nature.com/3AYW5yR

Out with a blast. Leaving Lausanne today after more than five beautiful years that shaped me considerably, on both a professional and personal level. Looking ahead with excitement, but I will miss the wonderful people that made this place a true home. Au revoir!

Thrilled to have contributed to this innovative approach of costitutively activating TCS sensors to decode complex regulatory networks. Exciting insights into GBS host-pathogen interactions—definitely a must-read! nature.com/articles/s4146…

Do you use D39V, TIGR4, EF3030, BHN418, or another pneumococcal strain in your research? Easily browse their genome on PneumoBrowse 2 pneumobrowse2.veeninglab.com! Now out in shiny PDF in Nucleic Acids Research! Do you have any feedback? Please let us know! academic.oup.com/nar/advance-ar…

Proud to share my latest PhD work! We found that in GBS, CRISPR-Cas9 immunity is integrated within the virulence regulatory network. This co-regulation, mediated by CovR—the major regulator of virulence—could enhance the immune repertoire during infection. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Checkout Bevika Sewgoolam 🇿🇦 in 🇨🇭 preprint! She used CRISPRi-seq to determine antibiotic-stress signatures, specifically of pneumococci treated with fluoroquinolone antibiotics. It's a really powerful approach revealing a surprising antibiotic combination therapy. 1/9 biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Great collaboration with Morten Kjos to figure out which genes are required for Staphylococcus aureus to live in milk. Important to know due to Staphs ability to cause bovine mastitis and food poisoning biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Our work on genetic determinants for S. aureus fitness in milk is now available online. The study also exemplifies how milk can modulate antibiotic susceptibility. Congrats Marita Torrissen Mårli and thanks to all collaborators (Davide Porcellato Jan-Willem Veening Vincent de Bakker xue liu)!
