Lee Gwyther (@Grounded T) led a tree veteranisation workshop for arborists at Pengelli National Nature Reserve, which was a great chance to see the benefits of the technique for bats and other wildlife. These Natur am Byth! Barbastelle Bat Project workshops are annual events.

Next week, we’re giving a talk in Kippford, Dumfries and Galloway on the #MartensOnTheMove project. We’ll discuss the project’s work so far, including collaborating with the #KippfordCommunityNatureReserve and how to get involved and support pine martens! The National Lottery Heritage Fund


#NationalTreeWeek Working with Bat Conservation Trust and funded by Natural England’s Species Recovery Programme, the National Barbastelle and Bechstsein’s Survey aims to help understand the ecology of two rare woodland bats, their habitat needs, and to develop a monitoring programme for them.


VWT is delighted to support this new PhD opportunity in partnership with OneZoo Centre for Doctoral Training, Aberystwyth University and Queen's University Belfast 🎓. The research will look at zoonoses and distribution of feral cats in rural landscapes. bit.ly/3OwmZ4y for more info.

#MartensOnTheMove has installed den boxes at Roamer’s Wood in the Tweed Valley with Sustainable West Linton and District to provide local pine martens with safe places to rest and breed. VWT vol Lisa did well at her first den box installation training session. The National Lottery Heritage Fund



In autumn, #MartensOnTheMove visited Mid Wales for pine marten den box maintenance, such as replacing parts of the boxes showing signs of wear. This is done in autumn to avoid the breeding season or colder months, when pine martens are most likely using the boxes The National Lottery Heritage Fund
