Chalk streams are as biodiverse and rare as any tropical rainforest. England has 85% of the world’s chalk streams. But Labour’s planning bill allows them to be polluted by developers and offset elsewhere. But how do you offset an irreplaceable habitat? theguardian.com/environment/20…

Anyone telling you there's anything normal about these local elections is talking out their arse. Below, gains and losses as a proportion of total contests in every set of locals in the last 50 years - provisional numbers, based on 62% of seats declared.

And there's nothing to say that the replacement green space must be all one piece. It could be little separated patches. Not really a replacement at all.

This is what comes of an approach that condones high car ownership in cities. Sprawl in employment, retail, education & housing, with attendant hard standing and roads provided for the needs of cars to intermediate. The many apologists for this should hang their heads in shame.

Proud to have been blocked by journalist Jon Stone (we criticised his support for Camden Town pedestrianisation). Typifies the sort of cyclist who thinks the world should revolve around him. Look at his videos praising LTNs: nothing about their downsides youtube.com/LondonCycleRou…

I've long felt Southwark Council has begun to rely on wealth creation elsewhere, or by closer relationships to large corporates. Zoning, parking & transport policy all hurt independent smallholders. Why is UK Town Hall so obsessed with promoting warehouse retail, the great generator of plastics/packaging waste, evolved into its apogee, delivery of every item individually wrapped to one’s door? Why does it continue to attack walkable retail, which sells in loose quantities?

Brockwell Park Association This is the actual view of the hall from the patchy grass that still hasn’t recovered from last year’s events, and soon to be trashed once again.

How Old Kent Road went from 37 pubs to 2, with most damage done in the 60s as the new Southwark Council came into being. Car-owning local politicians (including MPs) then pushed for more car storage on side streets & traffic on main roads (cf red routes). southwarknews.co.uk/news/community…

.London Councils insist the kerbside must continue to be used for storage for local homeowners (mostly CPZ car storage), rather than be the lynchpin for encouraging more inward custom and investment, with child homelessness “a price worth paying” for this. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
