EVA_H is finally available in python! 🌋🤓github.com/thomasaubry/EV… It predicts volcanic perturbations to atmospheric optical properties. EVA_H runs instantaneously, accounts for height & latitude of a volcanic SO2 emission, & is calibrated vs the 1979-2015 eruption sequence (1/4)

🌦️🧊➡️🌋? How do climatic changes affect volcanic processes? New #openaccess paper in the exciting "Looking Backwards and Forwards in Volcanology" collection! doi.org/10.1007/s00445… Almost all volcanic processes are climate-sensitive, and lots of knowledge gaps to fill! (1/n)

Likelihood of an eruption near #Fagradalsfjall in #Reykjanes #Iceland has increased based on latest measurements and models scientist Veðurstofa Íslands / Icelandic Met Office have. Strong magma movement at about 1km depth. Eruption might occur in next few days or weeks.

When the Tonga volcano erupted on Jan. 15, NASA’s Microwave Limb Sounder detected a huge amount of water vapor entering the atmosphere, enough to fill ~58K Olympic pools. This could have a small, temporary warming effect on Earth’s global average temp. go.nasa.gov/3vA0mTI

The new #Fagradalsfjall lava falls within the compositional range of the last eruption. It is not identical in composition to the last lavas erupted from the 2021 eruption, showing that deep magmatic processes continued in the interval between eruptions.

Near-real time petrology results by Geochemistry and Petrology Group @ Uni. Iceland are in! In summary, the first lavas erupted in 2022 are the left overs from 2021 that have been sitting just under the surface. Will we see fresher stuff (magma coming from great depth) in some days? #reykjanes #eruption

A photographer stood on the trail and captured people seeing the eruption for the first time. I got emotional just from seeing the photos! visir.is/g/20222296298d #fagradalsfjall

Beautiful weather and plume conditions yesterday for sampling emissions from #Fagradalsfjall eruption. We sampled the airborne plume with Svarmi drone at the same time as sampling it on the ground. Thanks Eemu Ranta for capturing the moment

First time we've used DJI M300 platform and I was very impressed with the long flying time with our heavy equipment onboard. Over twice as long as with the M600 we used last year #Fagradalsfjall #eruption

The view from the end of the fissure at the end of the eruption. We got a great sample set in just one week so can't complain and looking forward to see what will happen next! See you next time #Fagradalsfjall Laura Wainman Adam Cotterill Prof. Anja Schmidt

Another amazing butterfly for my collection. This is the total dike induced displacement associated to the Meradalir eruption (SW Iceland - Reykjanes peninsula). Sentinel-1A images (each fringe ~3 cm), descending orbit, Jul. 30 - Aug. 23.
