BBC’s Jeremy Bowen: Israelis don’t want us to film outside the window at the devastation in Gaza…communities in the north of Gaza are flat, there’s nothing left…Israel will not allow reporters, like myself, to enter Gaza to report the story and they don’t want us to see it

'oh we just need to bring manufacturing back' We have the fifth most valuable currency in the world. Who the fuck are we exporting to? How do you expect to finance your industrial strategy if it relies on tanking the currency to make exports viable? How do we compete with China?

Put money into some new high tech manufacturing. I'm all for it. It's exactly the kind of high value product we *can* export. But the idea we can just 'make things again' is so divorced from reality. People will not accept losing cheap imports to bring the sweatshops back lol

According to YouGov, almost half (45%) of British voters say their government should recognise Palestine as an independent state, while only 14% disagree. To make this about "British Muslim voters" is a pretty disgusting and conspiratorial take, Andrew.

Reform’s and Richard Tice's anti-clean energy campaign will be detrimental to our economy. It will: Increase energy imports. Damage investment. Stifle growth. We must get Britain building! šŸ—ļø

Cherry Vann is a very good thing and I am delighted the Church in Wales has chosen her as its Primate. May she give it renewed vision and a bit of fire in its belly.

1/4 Africa is drowning in debt while facing the worst climate impacts. This isn’t just a fiscal crisis - it’s a humanitarian emergency. Climate finance and debt reform must be treated as one fight. My piece for Project Syndicate: project-syndicate.org/commentary/glo…

This ā€˜familicide’, the deliberate killing of whole families, has been part of Israeli practice for decades (it was what alerted me to the genocidal dimension of the 2008-9 attack on the Gaza), but now it is an element of the full-scale genocide.

Here's the problem. People think council tax pays for bins. What they don't realise is that council tax is - absurdly - how we pay for care in this country. Your council tax is going on the rising cost of adult social care as more people live longer & need more care. Not bins.

Instead of tinkering with re-valuation of council tax or ā€˜topping up’ the social care budget annually, major systemic reform is needed both to council tax & social care. It is politically difficult but it must be done.
