I am happy to announce a grant from the state of over $1.9 million for a project on 431 in Guntersville. This project will help improve traffic in the area around the high school. Thanks to Governor Kay Ivey for her support on this project.

Today we began the 2025 Legislative Session. It is truly an honor to serve District 9 in the Alabama Senate. On the first day of session families are allowed to join us on the floor. It made today even more special having Ashton and Cal with me as we gaveled in.

It’s always great to have our superintendents visit in Montgomery. We are blessed to have some of the best schools and leaders in the state.

The NCAA has got to do better! I feel for all the student athletes at South Alabama and Richie Riley staff after having their season end like this. There is nothing like the excitement when you see your name with a bid to the post season and this apology doesn’t cut it.

Today the bill that allows state employees and teachers to receive parental leave passed the house and heads to Governor Ivey for her signature. I’ve been happy to work on this issue a few years with Arab Tribune Editor Charles Whisenant and now see it to the finish line.

Midnight in Montgomery as we are in the last days of the session.

The Senate concurred with a House amendment to SB 53. It now heads to Governor Ivey. This bill provides law enforcement tools to determine the immigration status of someone and creates the crime of human smuggling for people that knowingly transport illegal aliens into Alabama.
