Oh come on @bbc! #EELive credits could've been at least readable, instead of speeding by in a blur!! Bravo Eastenders team, we appreciated your efforts!!

LS Lowry died this day in 1976. Growing up in Salford, I was surrounded by his old haunts, & everyone we knew had a Lowry print on their wall. In fact, my great uncle lived next door to him and his mum. ("She was a right old cow!")

Clint Hill has died. One of the bravest men I've ever heard of. Being in Dallas, at that window, 60 years later, to the very minute, is something I'll never forget. #ClintHill

Who knows the name Harry Lauder? A Scottish comedian, famous the world over - and once the highest-paid performer - he died this day in 1950. Here he is meeting another exceptionally well known Brit... #harrylauder #charliechaplin

RIP Henry Kelly. When we launched the world's 1st podcasting company in 2005, he did a daily news podcast. He'd turn up to my house, before 7am, before I was even up, announcing, "I'm ready, dear boy!" With no notes he'd wax lyrical about the news for 15 mins in one perfect take.

RIP to a legend. The Conversation was just one masterpiece in a career full of them. Which of #GeneHackman's performances still lingers with you?

RIP Andy Peebles, famously the last man to interview John Lennon. We used to work in adjoining studios at Real Radio. I always remember him telling me what he said to the boss when offered a new contract: "I asked him, do you know what the word derisory means?" 😂

RIP Pope Francis. One of life's highlights to have seen him at the Sunday Blessing in Rome. He always struck me as a kind and empathetic man.

Seriously. Whats the thinking behind this #VEDay80 celebration running order? Surely the veterans would appreciate music of the time, songs they know and could sing along to? Even I'm finding it deeply inappropriate.

Farewell, Alfred Brendel. Once saw him crossing Waterloo Bridge, flat cap and raincoat on, carrier bag in hand, on his way to play the Royal Festival Hall. I remember thinking, nobody knows this unassuming old man is one of the world's greatest ever pianists. RIP, Sir.

At Glastonbury yesterday, a band called for “inshallah, from the river to the sea.” The crowd cheered. When I hear that phrase chanted with joy, I feel fear and - whoever you are - so should you. Most people don’t understand what it means. But it’s been used for decades by
