After 3 months in hospital recently I had to jump through hoops to get a payment that would leave me with $147/month after rent (not including bills) or go back to work early and risk not being able to cope. Not sharing for sympathy but to highlight a problematic system.

If you or someone you care about may ever need psychiatric care and are in a position to do so, I urge you to invest in private health insurance (at least for Melb, Aus). Unfortunately not a possibility for all but the differences in facilities alone are huge. #reducethestigma
