#VanGogh's iconic "Potato Eaters" portrayed actual peasants residing in rural Brabant, Netherlands. Van Gogh researchers know their names and details of their lives. Vincent considered this somber painting his masterwork even after he had moved onto a brilliant-coloristic pallet.

Harvests and sunlight are inseparable in the life of the land and in the art of #VanGogh. No other painter celebrated the yellow light of the sun, harvest and the land as Van Gogh did. It is impossible to think of Vincent's artistic legacy without the soil and the color yellow.

This is one of the most spectacular of #VanGogh's flower paintings; having the effect of fireworks. Set against a background of light-green, the red central flowers are made all the redder by the law of complementary color contrast and the whole pitched in the air like fireworks.

Most painters would have passed this by without a second thought. Not #VanGogh he engages the tree with magical dots and colors. Now the banal, open ditch and farm house has become the substance of vision and poetic insight- telling us not to dismiss the unsung power of nature.

"The Resurrection of Lazarus" was painted in 1890 during the final months of #VanGogh's life. Van Gogh painted his own features in place of Lazarus. A statement of Van Gogh's belief in the eternal promise of Resurrection from the finite to the infinite - mortality to immortality.

In the last months of his life #VanGogh resided in Auvers, France under the care of a local doctor. During this time he devoted himself to painting the cottages and gardens in this rural village. Auvers reminded him of his bucolic upbringing in rural Holland and untroubled times.

#VanGogh began his career in 1880 with relentless, self-assigned drawing projects. The works shown here (made between 1882-84) show how proficient a draftsman he became in only two years. By the end of the decade with his mastery of color and brushwork his work was extraordinary.

The stunning closeup of #VanGoghs sunflowers reminds one of just how extraordinary his sense of color, shape and expressive paint handling was. That he is one of the most beloved artists in the world is not surprising when his gifts are fully appreciated and celebrated.

#VanGogh often painted the eruption of trees and flowers in a landscape. The release of brilliant colored floral was like the swipe of a brush on a landscape as a vast canvas. Van Gogh celebrated the metaphor of the artist as minor creator who imitates the Creator of all things.

#VanGogh's "Great Harvest" of 1888 overlooking Arles where he had his Yellow House. The yellow of the house and the Sunflowers he would paint within its yellow walls spilled out over the valleys, fields and meadows giving light to art and to a man in need of its uplifting light.

The existing 902 letters of #VincentvanGogh offer an unparalleled account of the artistic and spiritual life of an extraordinary person. From illustrated letters produced when he was 18 to his last at 37 we are able to follow the moods, musings and movements of his mind and eye.

#VanGogh's late-landscapes are bathed in the warmth of southern Provence. He captured the harvest of olives under abundant sunlight in paintings made in 1890. The ever-present golden glow of the sky says it all.

The relationship between the portrait of the field hand, Patience Escalier and the landscape at Arles is fascinating as Patience worked in the very fields depicted in the landscape. #VanGogh flooded the background of the portrait with the same cadmium orange as in the landscape.

The Iris paintings are #VanGogh's elegy to the uplifting nature of floral life. Irises grew in the courtyard of St. Remy hospital and Vincent took great comfort by contemplating them. The regal blossoms carry a sense of renewed life: Van Gogh's and ours as we ponder his work.

#VanGogh had great love for the most simple of things such as bark on the side of a tree. Yet, in his study of bark he evokes associations with many other things such as: stone, flowing water, lightning in the sky. He was able to see multiplicity in unity or the whole in a part.

#VanGogh's human subjects often evoke a contemplative mood which may be surprising considering that Vincent has been described as a disruptive man. His brother Theo said Vincent was capable of the most gentle emotions and his portrait paintings are witness to his serene side.

The intricate brush patterns in the interiors of #VanGoghs famed Sunflowers paintings can only be appreciated up-close and in person. Vincent was very deliberate & precise in making the 12 paintings that comprise this remarkable series of works. He was a most thoughtful painter.
