@MrBlairsClass šŸ‘This is another systems level change reaching all aspects of teaching & learning. To ensure it’s done well, schools & Ts need time to unpack, process, try, & grow w ongoing supports throughout the next yr (& beyond). It can’t rest w 1-off PD events &/or staff meetings alone

Fully agree. I’m excited for this change and have been working with proficiencies for years but without coordination (Aka TIME!) I’m worried about implementation more widely 😣

MsHanesTweets Be sad about the system. We know the percents are not an accurate reflection of learning so hopefully we trust ourselves over an inaccurate algorithm.

There is so much good that happens when folks get to actually collaborate. This requires: -Time -Shared space -Common goals -Scheduled check-ins A quick 30 mins just doesn’t normally cut it!

We have to stop making learning about marks/grades. It diminishes learning to eventually being transactional for all students. We don't grade for them. We grade because we like. Let's be honest. @HumResPro humanrestorationproject.org/writing/gradin…

I teach Sharknado as a film about climate migration. And a kid was like ā€œI didn’t realize I can try to have thoughts about the stuff I watch for fun!ā€ I sorta don’t think the humanities need a much loftier mission than helping people see they can think about stuff they encounter

šŸ‘Kudos to all residents (including this kind daughter shoveling for her dad) who are keeping the sidewalks and pathways adjacent to their homes clear. Please do your part within 24 hrs of snowfall stopping, so that it’s safe for everyone to get around. cnv.org/Snow

US teachers on average spend 28 hours of their work week in face-to-face instruction. Finland? 21 hours. Japan? 18 hours. Who could have guessed that giving teachers more time time to plan, assess, give feedback, engage in professional learning, etc. would improve outcomes?

They aren’t ridiculous any more. I said this years ago and I’ll say it again, in an AI world, being trained in those liberal arts can be very valuable. AI/LLMs and whatever comes after LLMs needs to be taught about the world as it happens and given different perspectives about

US teachers, I implore you. The importance of voting needs to be modeled and taught relentlessly for the next six months. Teach like the world depends on it.
