I remember crying in a faculty meeting in Cambridge. Two thoughts. When I walked out (to disguise it) ,only one guy came out to find out if I was ok. I still remember, GH, thank you. The other is can’t we let people cry? Maybe it is the right reaction.

You can watch my Friends of the Bodleian lecture on "Risky Encounters" -- about the dangers of fictional (and real) libraries online now: tinyurl.com/mjfsxk67 Why so many bodies in the library?

why are there so many bodies in the library? one answer here (but a gesture to the excitement of the book stacks and the things we did there: youtube.com/watch?v=5VAz94…

You know you're really getting on a bit, when you find yourself set in an exam to be translated into Latin! tinyurl.com/45m643uk

Too many bodies in the library, skeletons in the bookstacks. Starting from Inspector Morse (of course) I ask why there is so much crime in fictional libraries: tinyurl.com/mjfsxk67

mary beard British Museum I was lucky enough to see it in Bayeux in June. It's going to be taken down so a new, flatter display can be built. Gravity has taken its toll at the bottom of the tapestry. The British Museum is not a bad place to look after it. It will be interesting to see how it's displayed.
