At Du Quoin this morning for a surprise matchup in a 2A baseball sectional final--the 21-14 Indians and 11-15 West Frankfort. Redbirds, who were a 10th seed going into the regional, have won 4 straight postseason games. WF is the home team on DQ's field.

No score after an inning. WF cost itself a run when a runner at second tried to make third on a turfball in front of the catcher and was nailed. Next 2 batters walked and doubled before an inning-ending groundout.

No score after 2 innings. Not many empty seats here at Don Stanhouse Field, named for the DQ alum who enjoyed a good MLB career, notably as the Orioles' closer in the late 70s who made manager Earl Weaver smoke cigarettes at an incredible clip.

West Frankfort gets a run back in the 6th via Jase Bennett's 2-out triple and a wild pitch. But Du Quoin still possesses an 8-4 lead.

This one went into the history books at 1:02 p.m. as an 8-4 DQ win. Indians (22-14) meet Teutopolis Monday night at 7 at SIU in a Class 2A super sectional.
