Energized today after meeting with Mi’kmaw language teachers in community. We are working towards actions of decolonization by supporting the growth of Mi’kmaw language in schools.

It shouldn't be that difficult to stop teaching students about the so-called benefits of colonialism.

Do not take a job working in any educational space with students who are different from you, if you do not have the cultural capital to engage positively with those students. lovingly redirect, ability to acknowledge what you don’t know, & the desire to learn, unlearn & relearn.

The “key ingredient in the creation of the culture of academic success for African [Canadian] students is leadership” (Heggins & Petrie, 2009). Currently, in Nova Scotia, there are 346 English schools & only 15 of those have a Black principal. Who is supporting them?

Many white people cling onto attitudinal or interpersonal definitions of racism because the solutions (antibias stuff, restorative "practices") don't threaten systems advantaging us. This is one way systems of advantage & oppression operate within much white-driven "DEI" work.
