Do astrocyte-secreted molecules control inhibitory synaptogenesis? Yes! What are those molecules? I’m happy to share the answer to this long-standing question in the preprint of my postdoctoral work in Cagla Eroglu lab: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… 🧵⬇️
Astrocytes initiate PD pathophysiology - but HOW? This tour-de-force, led by Shiyi Wang, show that astrocytic Lrrk2 regulates pERM levels in mice and humans. Key to future therapeutics, we reduced pERM in adult mice with familial PD and restored synapse number and function.
Very excited and proud to share this preprint from AMAZING scientist Shiyi Wang and colleagues, pinpointing a novel role for an astrocytic mechanism in Parkinson's Disease (PD) pathogenesis. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
SynBot preprint is out!!! Do you want to quantify synapses from immunohistochemistry images accurately and benefit from the advances in machine learning! Check it out! Open access software on GitHub, and all protocols are on protocols.io! Congrats to Justin Savage and co!
A reminder of the trajectory of Nobel Laureate Katalin Kariko. Passed over for a tenured position, grants rejected, ideas shunned and overlooked. She was just too far ahead of the curve and not savvy at playing the traditional scientific game. Now look! washingtonpost.com/health/2021/10…
Spotlight: Jetter and Dr Sarah D Ackerman BIG Center @WashU discuss work by Christabel Tan, PhD, Cagla Eroglu et al. (bit.ly/3PcVlcG) which shows that δ-catenin controls the astrocyte–neuron cadherin interactions that regulate layer-specific astrocyte morphogenesis. bit.ly/470q18t
Beautiful and impactful work by Lola Irala and everyone else in the Eroglu lab❤️
