Getting sheds down doesn’t just improve the look of the street; it makes the city safer. Read my op-ed with Alvin Bragg Mark D. Levine on the steps we’re taking to bring light back to our streets

“Built environment has the capacity to inspire natives and visitors alike — or, when wrapped up uglier than Christo’s Reichstag, to drag us all down together.” New York City Council has opportunity to enact needed scaffolding reforms now. nydailynews.com/2024/12/01/kno…

We are committed to reducing UNNECESSARY sidewalk sheds. The Department of Buildings team sees a more precise shed policy for campus-like settings and collaborated with our NYCHA partners. We'll always work to keep New Yorkers safe. We can do it smartly, too. nydailynews.com/2024/12/10/nyc…

Travel to any other city and you’ll notice the scourge of scaffolding (the type that goes up and stays up forever without any facade repair activity) is a uniquely NYC problem. A package of bills in New York City Council could bring big changes. Time to #GetShedsDown!

My first job in nyc policy and advocacy was on a campaign to get council and Albany approval for congestion pricing. The year was 2007 and Mayor Bloomberg announced the big idea as part of PlaNYC2030. 17yrs later it’s finally in effect! Congrats to all who made today possible!

Congrats Gotham Park x Welcome to Chinatown on a great Lunar New Year festival at the Arches. What a great way to showcase and support local small businesses and vendors!

Let there be LIGHT🌞 Another pesky sidewalk shed has bitten the dust! This one in Chelsea has finally been taken down after 8(‼️) years! This shed is about to be joined by a whole bunch of its friends in the dust heap, thanks to New York City Council passing new #GetShedsDown legislation

Big win for NYC streets: It’s a great day to #GetShedsDown 😎 Mayor Eric Adams just signed legislation to address NYC’s long-standing sidewalk shed epidemic, giving DOB new tools to help us compel building owners to finish construction quicker and clear these eyesores from our streets!

Finally had a chance to stop by the newly re-opened Brooklyn Banks and wow is this a great addition to the neighborhood, even for a non-skater like me. Government doing good things! We love to see it!
