Women now represent 36% of EM residents, but #genderequity & promotion in EM- esp at the chair level- continues to lag among medical specialties. Pervasive gender harassment is one of many reasons why & reporting is critical to reduce harassment. So why doesn't it happen? 1/3

For male academics (who are 4x more likely to have a partner at home doing domestic care), the start of the COVID pandemic was a publishing boon. Of the 45 most prolific medical journal authors (60+ papers) during the 1st 18 months, just 5 were women. bmj.com/content/381/bmโ€ฆ

There is no need to be rude or demeaning or petulant when the ER is consulting you. Thank you, and have the evening you deserve.

Iโ€™m an emergency medicine doctor. When you come to my ER, I will take care of you even if your beliefs are different than mine. My job is to take care of patients. If you would deny a patient care because they have different beliefs than you, then you should not be in medicine

My best practice is to confirm patient name and the residentโ€™s last name with the trainee before I go into rooms so I can refer to them as Dr. So and so and never by first name

This is infuriating-DEI cannot be performative and we have to do better for our URM trainees. Inclusivity and advocacy matter, especially in non diverse environments. rrayjr.blog

14/ Here's what I know for sure: Life is going to life. Whether you're a new student or the most senior faculty member in the hospital--it will. And we all need to be okay with accepting help when we're flying on one wing, Because when we don't, it sends a message. It does.

She believed she could but it was uncompensated, non promotable work she had no interest in so she set a reasonable boundary, protected her time, and said no.

Every hospital really should have a zero tolerance policy for mistreatment of staff. Especially in the a&o x3 patient. Idk why healthcare has this mentality that patients can act however they want. Patient behavior can be terrible and staff are just expected to deal with it

How do we move from tokenism to inclusion? By focusing on meaningful change, intersectionality, and value and respect for all individuals. The concept of "fit" is fraught with peril. Thanks to Sree Natesan, MD (she/her), Arlene S. Chung, MD, MACM, and aL'Ai alvarez, MD for this great session at #CORDAA24.

Most patients don't realize their doctors and nurses think about them in the spaces between visits. While walking to the parking lot, driving home, brushing teethโ€ฆ even before falling asleep. Our work is a part of us, and we really care about you. That's all.
