It's been a strange old week in the #GreatNorthBog - one minute it's snowing horizontally and the next minute it's this. Still, could be worse, could be raining. No, wait, it *did* rain. Still, curlews are back so it *must* be spring...

We’re starting work with our Wild Ingleborough colleagues to restore the mountain’s peatlands. Please be aware there will be helicopter-lifts around Ingleborough – we hope to get everything moved on Friday. Colleagues and contractors will be on the ground; please follow advice.

Spring is (potentially) here! Come and celebrate with our #TeamWilder colleagues at Cliffe Castle, Keighley, on Sunday 9 March! There's loads to get involved in and you can see how our bog-in-a-raised bed is growing: ywt.org.uk/events/2025-03…

Spring may not be quite as sprung as the weekend led us to believe. Don’t worry, though, here’s some very springy sphagnum to see us through to the warmer weather #GreatNorthBog #SphagnumMonday

A rose between two thorns? Um, that possibly doesn't work... anyways, this is a black darter larva between two damselfly larvae in the #GreatNorthBog (ok, they're in a dish here, bit they're going back into the Great North Bog).

Peatlands are excellent at preserving artifacts. Here, a Dublin clay pipe found by the Yorkshire Dales National Park archaeologist at one of our sites. Dated it 1880-1920. It's a permanent pipe rather than a cutty pipe. #Archeology #GreatNorthBog

We've started #Peatland restoration on #WildIngleborough. These stone dams will slow the flow of water down this gully & help to trap peat sediment. As the gully silts up, both the gully & surrounding peat will get wet enough to allow bog vegetation to re-establish #GreatNorthBog

Some of our colleagues got to go and visit BeadaMoss, and let me tell you that nobody who had to stay in the office was jealous. No. Soon, some of this sphagnum will help to replant the #GreatNorthBog.
