Glad to see The Washington Post highlighting findings from National Academy of Medicine report on clinician burnout. But, one important contributor is missing in the article...health IT usability. Usable technology is central to reducing burnout, as the report indicates. wapo.st/31KZ3j4

Can we predict EM physician CPOE errors with interaction data? Swami presents an analysis done with Medical HumanFactors & zach hettinger...the short answer is YES. Random forest preformed best with AUC =.89 and top factors were time on task and # of clicks. #HFES2019 HFES HCTG

Ding dong the “gag clauses” are dead! Great work @ONC_HealthIT & other stakeholders that helped push this through. It took ~10 years & required media attention from Darius Tahir and others to get it done. Now we have to create the safety reporting program to collect these images

In 2012, supported by @ONC_HealthIT funding, Rollin J (Terry) Fairbanks, zach hettinger, & I visited 11 different #EHR vendors & identified generally subpar usability processes. Since that time vendor processes have improved. So why hasn’t EHR usability improved overall? Read why here:
