Today I realized that while all scientists are my people, I belong in the neuroscience club. I'm leaving my synthetic biology postdoc. Not sure what's next for me yet but please know it will be neuroscience-related! 🧠

I did not get an NSF GRFP in 2018 nor was I awarded an F31 this year after resubmitting my app. For those feeling disappointed in their outcome on the NSF, I want to share my favorite quote: “Chase the dream, not the competition”. You are worthy of doing the research you want.

I have opinions about what is happening in Ukraine, and they have a lot to do with human psychology. Ultimately, I find it incredibly sad that it is possible to dehumanize others to the extent that it is. We need to always consider others as real humans just like ourselves.

Assuming that people getting excellent positions when they leave a lab is because they received excellent mentorship from their PI is a big assumption. Many get these positions DESPITE abusive, toxic, or absent mentorship.
