An important reflection of Tineke Strik about proposed Return Regulation GAPs Return Migration

I am also sceptical about return hubs, they are not a 'solution', rather an experiment of externalizing asylum, a policy design for failure, and, more importantly, undermining the right to asylum and protection GAPs Return Migration

The proposed Return Regulation doesn’t ensure durable solutions—it externalizes responsibility, fuels suffering, and wastes resources, while catering to political optics. Important critique from our GAPs Return Migration team member Tineke Strik. #migration #returns #policyfailures

📢 We welcome research-informed policymaking—but call for evidence-based dialogue with European Commission . 🔗 Read our joint statement: returnmigration.eu/gaps-news/retu… Horizon Europe 🇪🇺 , zeynepmencutek #Migration #EUreturns #ResearchMatters

Return hub proposal is not feasible due to monitoring difficulties, heightened risk of human rights violations, high cost and low effectiveness as previous externalisation policies show. Check out our new commentary. GAPs Return Migration
