A REMINDER: NCAA D1 Volleyball is the hardest women’s sport roster to make. Only 1.2% of volleyball HS athletes get the chance to play D1. 1) If you do play D1 VB are you thankful for that chance? 2) If you want to, what are you doing to make yourself part of the 1%? #gratitude

PLAYERS: It's not your parent's responsibility, your coach's responsibility, or your teammate's responsibility to get you to be coachable and work hard. You control your attitude and effort regardless of your surroundings or circumstances. It's 100% your responsibility.

Studies show that playing team sports is a greater predictor of success for doctors-in-training than test scores. That’s powerful! Team sports are life lessons: leadership, commitment, respect & dedication just to name a few. Learn them & let them lead you to a successful future!

Unfortunately this needs to be said. Parents- drop the expectations for your child when it comes to participating in sports. Those expectations rob your child of their experience. Expectations are created in a vacuum. Great competitors make the most out of a situation.

Average college players spend 3,000 hours on their game in 4 years. Only 4% of that is spent on actual game play. You need mental & physical stamina, toughness & a willingness to work regardless of success or playing time. You have to love the process of what it takes to compete!

PLAYERS: Excuses and blaming things on other people will never get you closer to your goals. Losers find reasons why they can't do something. Champions always find ways to overcome challenges, avoid obstacles, minimize distractions, and get better!

Kids who are dependent on constant praise/attention have the biggest fear of competition, & worse, losing. Sports loses so many kids because they can’t overcome those fears. Teach kids to be independent/confident. Success doesn’t come from “feel good” awards, but from hard work!

“The first step on the ladder of success is always failure. Immature people don’t deal well with failure and immature people don’t understand that there is going to be failure.” You will never succeed more than you fail. Failure is part of the process of becoming successful.

I tell my HS student-athletes often - ‘you don’t get to an elite program and then start acting elite. You start acting elite and then you might get to an elite program.’ This is the video version of that.
