In intracellular trafficking, the ESCRT machinery mediates membrane scission of the multivesicular bodies (MVBs). Work @nature proposes that, in plant cells, this is mediated by biomolecular condensates, and depends on the condensates' physical properties. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Condensates can not only bend biomembranes, but also cut them (fission). Check out the first evidence in our @nature paper: t.ly/qOkcX Great collaboration between maths, physics and biology Jaime Agudo-Canalejo Xiaofeng Fang Interfacial Cell Biology Center for Systems Biology Dresden

New paper w/ Mike Chatzittofi Ramin Golestanian! When the precision of a molecular machine is too good to be true, it could be that there is not a single machine but a whole team behind it. Stochastic thermodynamics helps us infer how big the team is, and how strongly it cooperates.

We are hiring a PhD The University of Edinburgh School of Engineering to work on the bottom-up design and construction of synthetic cells using #microfluidics and #lipid membranes. Lab is based at the Institute for Bioengineering. #synbio eng.ed.ac.uk/studying/degre… Please RT!

We are excited to invite you to celebrate two books recently published as part of our project. Diwas Bisht's and Julia Giese's books discuss British Bangladeshi arts, politics, and belonging in East London. Let us know you're coming: eventbrite.co.uk/e/book-launch-… Tower Hamlets Council
