Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in NL tomorrow. He’s making a child care announcement with Premier Andrew Furey, and then a town hall with the Clarenville Chamber of Commerce #nlpoli

Please stop telling people with high blood pressure but no other symptoms that they MUST GO TO THE ER RIGHT NOW. When you give them this urgency, and our recommended practice is to not intervene on patients with good follow-up, we are setting everyone up to be disappointed/upset.

A lesson in life. Call from a colleague today… “Keith, I’ve got a 80 year old man with jaundice and fever from a large 2cm gallstone wedged in the bile duct. He’s on anticoagulation for PE. I just have a bad feeling about him and I think he needs an ERCP today.”

Here’s why your ER doctors are not leaving. In the face of the turmoil and the understaffing and the long wait times, I try to practice from a place of gratitude, by Dr. Eric Angus thestar.com/opinion/contri… via Toronto Star Howard Ovens

We often criticize ED physicians who go too fast. We worry about the harm they may cause to their patients. The unpopular take is to criticize those who go way too slow. We often fail to worry about the patients they don’t see. The waiting TBS. I worry a lot about them.

Change starts with respect and a new brand. Family physicians are often called GPs or non-specialists. Medical students who “specialize”in family medicine are called family physicians. It’s time to recognize that family physicians are specialists too. The College of Family Physicians of Canada

How is that >98% of Danes have a GP? Part of the answer lies in their approach to training physicians. Here's a summary of some of what I've learned on my trip to Denmark 🇩🇰 🧵 (the photo here is a wall of some of the 170+ residents trained at the practice I visited)

Huge congrats to Kurtis Butt on your moderated poster this afternoon 🎉🩺🤓 ‘Community emergency’ patients are an important population often forgotten about and with bad outcomes if not dispositioned appropriately, we need to do better! Other co-authors: Amber Hodder

Shorter courses of antibiotics cmaj.ca/content/196/37… Antimicrobial resistance is an urgent threat Longer antibiotic courses increase the likelihood of adverse effects and resistance Most acute community-acquired infections can be treated with 5–7 days of antibiotics
