#UIBteam of SEAGHOSTS has just started the #stormies fieldwork 2024 on Benidorm island, with the support of Serra Gelada Natural Park Animal Demography and Ecology Unit Biodiversa+ (European Biodiversity Partnership) Fundación Biodiversidad

#UBteam of #SEAGHOSTS is now coordinating three parallel samplings & deployments of European #stormpetrels in the Levantine, Cantabrian and Canary waters of Spain. Many,many thanks to our colleagues of Anse (Cuenta inactiva) & avescantabricas .

A remarkable one in four of the 150 Storm Petrels handled yesterday morning were already ringed, including birds ringed as Skokholm chicks in 2022, 2021, 2019 and 2014 (one of these from our nest boxes)

Camp vibes on Nólsoy after a few days of moist conditions. The seams on my 35+ year old tent have seen better days - bailing out the water from within is a great morning routine. Meanwhile, we now have 19 Storm petrels on eggs in our boxes and have captured mating on camera!

A late breeding season for Storm-petrels in the Faroes: most of our nests have just had eggs laid in the last week 🥚 Now 20 nestboxes with incubating adults and 47 boxes with nests / prospecting birds. Fingers crossed breeding success will be good despite the late start!

On April 30th, the #SEAGHOSTS #Biodiversa consortium carried out its 2nd Annual Meeting! Over 20 participants from 15 project partners 🌍across 11 countries shared 2024 progress, tackled challenges & set plans for the new field season. 🌊Exciting work ahead - stay tuned!

🌊Great start to the 2025 #SEAGHOSTS field season in the Balearic Islands. 4 out of 5 European storm petrels equipped with geolocators on Illa del Aire last year, were recovered by the fantastic @menorcaSOM team. Can’t wait to see what the data reveals!

🌊Exciting news from ornithologiki team! Field season commenced in both breeding areas in Greece to retrieve GLS tags mounted on European Storm Petrels last year. 4 out of 13 were retrieved in Skyros & 3 out of 6 in Diapontia. Weather cut expeditions short, but we’ll return soon

Raül Ramos from Universitat de Barcelona presented today our Project in the Biodiversa+ (European Biodiversity Partnership) Science Fair “Novel technologies & approaches for biodiversity monitoring”.
