It was a pleasure to welcome political and scientific guests for #EMBLtrec in Barcelona today! Among the speakers were Ignacio Baanante Balastegui, EMBL Delegate & Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades; Olivier Ramadour La France en Espagne 🇫🇷🇪🇸; Rosario Allué Generalitat de Catalunya; and Pep Hurtado Barcelona.

After a welcome by the Director of our local partner ICM-CSIC and the Head of EMBL Barcelona, guests heard about the expedition from @EMBL Fondation Tara Océan and EMBRC (European Marine Biological Resource Centre) representatives - followed by the chance to visit EMBL’s Advanced Mobile Lab and the labs on the Tara schooner.

🗣️Ricard Solé, Principal Investigator at Institute of Evolutionary Biology (IBE) and ICREA researcher at @UPFBiomed researcher talks about "Tackling ecosystem tipping points with emergent bioengineering" at the #TREC Expedition Barcelona 2024.🛥️🧬🌏 #UnravellingEvolution #PreservingBiodiversity

🔬 At EMBL Barcelona, we build tissues to understand them. Meet Abiram Olivares, as he explores heart cells and the heartbeat.❤️He’s investigating why larger animals like the blue whale have slower heart rates than smaller ones, like mice. Abiram E. Olivares youtu.be/mPBEEp2X5JM?si…

We are looking for another exciting Group Leader to join the EMBL Barcelona family. We cover all things multicellular: from organs to organoids, 3D tissues to functional in vitro vasculature, from disease models to mathematical models… embl.org/sites/barcelon…

Great start to the Annual Symposium of the Barcelona Collaboratorium, kicking off with Leonid Mirny on Chromosomes as Communication and Memory Machines.

Followed by a great talk from Heather Harrington now at Center for Systems Biology Dresden on “Topology for spatial-temporal biology”

Indeed!! Congratulations to Maria Bernabeu and Viola Introini from EMBL Barcelona. This is very exciting work modeling a human disease with in vitro tissue biology!
