In January 2024, 46% of primary care appts were with a GP, and 21% with a practice nurse. The remaining 33% of appts were with other clinicians including phlebotomy, pharmacists, physio etc. Do you want GPs to be taking blood and doing all pharmacy meds reviews?
Locum GPs not getting jobs is a good thing. Locums cost the NHS unnecessary millions. The NHS could employ 5 ARRS staff for the cost of one locum GP, and provide more specialist care. It's the future.
But adding GPs to ARRS would be unfair to other AHPs. How are they expected to progress in their career if GPs start providing physio or Podiatry services in primary care? Or MH practitioners when GPs start offering sessions of CBT in primary care? #notadoctor #teamGP
