In 1998, postcards sent by our supporters persuaded Cambridgeshire County Council that permanently restricting motor traffic on Bridge Street was the right way to go. Many years later, who would go back? The street is a thriving place of people cycling, walking and visiting local businesses.

Our efforts to connect Cambridgeshire County Council with Dutch consultancy Haskoning paid dividends for people walking & cycling in the south of Cambridge. The Dutch-style roundabout at Fendon Road was a UK first, with a protected ring for cyclists and zebra crossings on each arm for pedestrians.

It was a pleasure to talk to County Councillor Dr Alex Bulat last week about sustainable transport in her division and beyond. We met at St Ives bus station and discussed the need for more local bus services and improvements to infrastructure for walking, wheeling and cycling.

#CamRideHome June, this Friday 6pm The Mill, Cambridge an hours leisurely ride exploring #Cambridge cycle routes. This month, a hepta centric spiral!

The first CYCLOPS junction in Cambridge at Gilbert Road and Warwick Road is the highlight of the Greater Cambridge Partnership Histon Road scheme. Camcycle inspired the design by sharing a new idea from Greater Manchester. This previously hostile junction is now a cycle route suitable for all.

Camcycle worked with waterbeachcc to ensure the developing Waterbeach New Town was designed to make walking & cycling the obvious choice for short journeys. This included replacing a proposed main road past the school with an active travel path, improving safety & air quality.

Much of the quality of the Greater Cambridge Partnership Milton Road scheme is testament to the campaigning of the 'Milton Road Alliance' between Camcycle and local residents' groups. The result is nearly 2 miles of protected cycle lanes, with cycling priority at side roads and safer junctions.
