GOP Sen. Shelley Moore Capito of WV told me there is "a lot of concern" among her constituents about cuts to Medicaid in House bill. Said she heard concerns at meetings over recess. Also said: “We haven't had a chance to digest how it's going to impact our hospitals.”

One thing Elon Musk doesn’t understand about the GOP is “deficit” rhetoric has long been a wink and nod. The party has—since Reagan—been willing to increase deficits in conservative flavors, ie tax cuts & military spending. While deeply reluctant to cut the big spending programs.

Smithsonian - Portrait Gallery non-firing: Sen. Peters, D-Mich., told me yes, Kim Sajet is still on the job as director at the Portrait Gallery. President Donald J. Trump claimed he fired her Friday. But Peters, who is on the Smithsonian board, was emphatic, “he has no authority to do that”

NEW -- Pete Hegseth promised Joni Ernst he'd appoint a sexual assault czar. It was critical to win over her vote. We reviewed 400 public releases from DOD and asked them and Ernst for comment. So far, there's no evidence any appointment has been made. thebulwark.com/p/pete-hegseth…
