Top Writers dubbed this "note stepping" and were super irritated by it! Thanks for all the feedback, and stats so far show this should help.

Key & simple change that helps gather more ratings on notes that have lopsided rating volumes (e.g. lots of ratings from people of one perspective, but very few from the other). Results in better assessments of notes which == better notes shown.

The fact that the open source Community Notes algorithm can be copy-and-pasted and run simultaneously across the world’s largest platforms is amazing. Look fwd to learning from the expansion of notes across the internet.

Improved flip prediction model means the most obviously helpful notes go live faster, and notes with uncertain helpfulness gather ratings for longer before showing ⬇️

Community Notes on TikTok would likely work very well. Existing notes already regularly cover TikTok videos reshared on X. Makes sense for Perplexity or any future owner to do it.

People told us it wasn't always obvious whether a note was showing across X, or was a preview of a proposed note still gathering ratings. Update to make it clear:

Notes sometimes quickly amass ratings from people from one perspective. Happens organically due to virality, and obviously could happen nefariously. This update adds to multiple systems that fortify against such events impacting which notes show.

The more I use LLMs the more I realize I am suffering Gell-Mann amnesia. Ask it something I know, and it’s obviously wrong. Turn the page and ask it something I don’t, and act like it’s right. We’ve awoken from this with news, how do we not immediately repeat?

Even in X Community Notes, we see notes written on TikTok videos. If implemented well, this will be a big boost to information quality.
